I was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana November 27, 1946. I
grew up in Zachary, a suburb of Baton Rouge; and I now live in Denham Springs,
also a suburb of Baton Rouge. I am a graduate of LSU and LSU Law School.
Between undergraduate school and law school, I served two years active duty in
the U.S. Army. I practiced law for three years in Baton Rouge, then took over
the family business, a twice-weekly suburban newspaper - the Livingston Parish News, when my father died of a sudden heart
attack while playing golf. I bought a small AM radio station in 1984,
upgraded its power in 1986, acquired a new FM license in 1989, upgraded its
power in 1991, then sold out to a chain in 1998. I continue to publish my
newspaper which now hits 25,000 households in Livingston Parish, directly east
of Baton Rouge. I also continue to stay involved in a few legal cases, mostly
as an investor. I am a past President of the Louisiana Press Association, and
currently serve as President of the National Newspaper
Association.
I am married (Nancy) with two kids (Ashleigh, 29, and McHugh, 16). I had a quadruple by-pass in late '98 which has caused a substantial change in my lifestyle. I am, for example, 25 pounds lighter than the mug shot attached to this bio. I miss my Stoli on the rocks with a twist; otherwise, staying healthy is tolerable. I enjoy reading books, working out, and playing APBA. In addition to the Louisiana Lashers of the YCL, I also manage the Denham Springs Duds of the Arriba Baseball Confederation. |
