Bruce Harrell, the founder and principal of the firm, is a native and
longtime resident of Tangipahoa Parish. He received his Bachelor of Science
degree in Accounting from Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) in 1972 and
became a Louisiana Certified Public Accountant in 1975. He is also licensed to
practice in Mississippi. Bruce serves as the Partner-in-Charge of all audit
engagements.
Bruce is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public
Accountants (AICPA), the Society of Louisiana CPAs (LCPA) and the Mississippi
Society of CPAs. He is past president of the North Shore Chapter of the LCPA and
is a past member of the LCPA Board of Directors. He has served on numerous LCPA
committees (including past and present service on the Governmental Accounting
and Auditing Committee). He is a current member of the Kentwood
Chamber of Commerce and is a past president of the Kentwood Rotary Club.
Upon his
graduation from SLU in 1973, Bruce joined a large local Baton Rouge CPA firm. While in Baton Rouge,
he worked with many types of
commercial enterprises and public entities. Bruce has significant experience in
auditing municipalities, city-parish governments, governmental grants, public
agencies, and nonprofit organizations. In the private sector, he has
worked with financial institutions, construction contractors, and firms of
professionals, among others. He has attended various seminars and conferences on
governmental accounting and audits of city government, parish government,
grants, and entitlement programs. Bruce has successfully completed a peer review by
a federal agency of a comprehensive audit under the Single Audit Act and a peer
review by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget on how local CPAs were
handling audits of federal grants. Bruce also served on the LCPA special
subcommittee that developed the Louisiana Governmental Audit Guide,
compliance with which is presently required by state law.
In addition to his formal and continuing professional education in auditing
and accounting, Bruce is schooled and experienced in virtually all areas of
federal and Louisiana taxation --- from sales and use tax to income and estate
tax. His expertise includes an in-depth knowledge of business organizations and
effective management procedures and the ability to analyze and advise clients on
complex business transactions and matters.
Bruce started his firm in Kentwood in 1977 and expanded it with an office
in Hammond in 1983. He personally has over 27 years of experience in
governmental auditing.
